On June 30, 2026, the U.S. Commerce Department lifted export controls on the latest Anthropic models Claude Fable 5 and Claude Mythos 5, formally removing the restrictions that had been in place since earlier in June. Claude Fable 5 will return to users globally on Wednesday, as announced at the time of the lifting. Claude Mythos 5 will remain limited to vetted partners.

Following the U.S. Commerce Department’s lifting of export controls on June 30, 2026, Claude Fable 5 will be restored to users globally across Claude.ai, the Claude Platform, Claude Code, and Claude Cowork. The company said restoration will begin on Wednesday and the model will be available to users on those Anthropic properties. Availability on third-party cloud marketplaces — AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Foundry — will follow as quickly as possible. Claude Mythos 5 will remain limited to vetted partners.

Access terms differ by subscription: Pro, Max, Team and select Enterprise subscribers will have Fable 5 included for up to half of their weekly usage limits through July 7. After July 7, access to Fable 5 will transition to usage credits. The initial post-restoration access period runs for six days at a 50% usage cap. The six-day window at a 50% cap is shorter than the originally planned 13 days at full inclusion.

Anthropic says its fix includes a retrained safety classifier that blocks the bypass in more than 99% of attempts. The company says any flagged Claude Fable 5 request is automatically rerouted to Claude Opus 4.8. Anthropic also linked the retrained classifier and the automatic rerouting as the technical measures it implemented to address the bypass that researchers reported. The company described these elements as the central components of its stated fix.

Researchers at the U.S. Commerce Department’s Center for AI Standards and Innovation reviewed the new and prior safeguards and called them extraordinarily strong. The reviewers noted that the tighter filter in the revised safeguards may cause false alarms. Claude Mythos 5 will remain limited to vetted partners.

Claude Fable 5 has been brought back online following the lifting of export controls by the U.S. Commerce Department, with access being restored on Anthropic’s platforms. The relaunch follows a cautious, phased approach that pairs stepped access with enhanced safety mechanisms implemented by Anthropic to address earlier vulnerabilities. Phased access and the enhanced safety measures were adopted in response to earlier reported bypasses.
