Franklin Templeton has completed its acquisition of crypto investment firm 250 Digital and launched a new division called Franklin Crypto. The $1.7 trillion asset manager said Franklin Crypto will provide institutional investors with actively managed cryptocurrency strategies, will bring the former 250 Digital investment team and their liquid strategies into Franklin Templeton’s global distribution platform, and will include an investment of Franklin Templeton’s own capital into those liquid strategies under the closing agreement. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The newly formed unit absorbs the entire 250 Digital investment team along with the liquid cryptocurrency strategies they previously ran under CoinFund. As part of the closing agreement, Franklin Templeton will commit its own capital to invest in those liquid strategies.

The unit is presented as the centralized home for the absorbed team and their existing liquid strategies.
Christopher Perkins and Seth Ginns will co-lead Franklin Crypto, with Perkins serving as Head of Franklin Crypto and Ginns as Chief Investment Officer. The stated leadership appointments place Perkins and Ginns at the head of the new unit’s management team. The acquisition and the establishment of the Franklin Crypto division were first announced in April.
