In July, developers activated the Ironwood upgrade as a follow-up network update. The Ironwood upgrade retired the Orchard shielded pool and added safeguards intended to trap counterfeit ZEC within the protocol. Exploitation of the flaw could not be determined.
Winklevoss-backed Cypherpunk Technologies launched a Zcash mining operation in August that represented 18% of the network’s hashrate at the time of reporting. Cypherpunk Technologies reported holding about 323,394 ZEC, a quantity described as roughly $268 million in value. The company aims to acquire 5% of the circulating supply.
